Introduction

The Foundry Toolkit for Government Business was developed through the American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC) Program which is sponsored by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The objective of this toolkit is to provide you a quick and efficient resource to understand the process of supplying parts to the government, specifically DLA.

There are six sections to the foundry toolkit:

  1. Getting Started – This section covers the key steps to ‘getting into the game’ of supplying the government. Before you are eligible to be a supplier, submit a quote, or even view a drawing, you must complete the steps in this section.
  2. Solicitation – This section provides assistance on defining the various parts of a standard solicitation; how to get answers to questions that you may have during the solicitation period; how to respond to an RFQ and submit quotes electronically.
  3. The Awards Process – How does the government award contracts? This section covers the basics on the award process utilized by DLA including an overview of Automated Best Value System (ABVS).
  4. Post Awards – This section covers the supplier’s responsibility once they have been awarded a contract; how to resolve issues that may arise after the award has been made; information on inspection and shipping the parts once they have been manufactured; and submitting an invoice for payment.
  5. Finding Opportunities - This section provides resources like the Parts Search Database to assist metalcasters in identifying potential business opportunities with the government.
  6. Other Resources – This section is the appendices of the toolkit and provides ancillary files and links that are useful for defense contractors.
